Volunteer with Scouts
Volunteering can support your wellbeing, help you make friends and learn new skills, and offer opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and create lasting memories. We welcome adults from all backgrounds and value the skills, experiences and abilities each person brings. Whether you can help regularly or occasionally, your contribution matters—from supporting youth activities to helping with planning, crafts, administration or refreshments. Are there different types of volunteers?
There are three ways to volunteer in Scouting in Barbados.
Associate Member
Associate Members do not wear the Scout uniform, although they are full members of the Association. They usually fill administrative roles at Group, District and National levels.
Helper
Helpers do not wear the Scout uniform and are not full members of the Association. They must register every year but do not pay a registration fee. They usually assist youth Leaders with meetings and activities at Group level.
Find the right volunteer role
The time you have available will determine the type of volunteer you will be. If you are not sure which is best for you, we would be happy to discuss it. Contact your Group Scout Leader or District Commissioner if you are already affiliated with a Scout Group or Scout District. Otherwise, email your contact information to headquarters@barbadosscouts.org.
How do I sign up to be a volunteer?
Download and complete the appropriate Application Form, electronically or by hand. To volunteer as a Member, complete the Adult Membership Application Form. To volunteer as an Associate Member or Helper, complete the Volunteer Application Form.
Submit your application
Email your completed form along with a valid Police Certificate of Character. If you completed the form by hand, scan it so it can be emailed. If you are affiliated with a Scout Group or Scout District, submit it to your district’s application email address. If you are not affiliated with a Group or District, email it to applybbsa@barbadosscouts.org.

What happens next?
Your application will be vetted and submitted to the Appointments Committee. Within two to four weeks, the Committee will inform you of the results of the vetting process. Successful applicants will receive details of their appointment, including its duration and the training to be completed.
Mandatory Safe from Harm training
Regardless of the type of volunteer, you must complete the mandatory Safe from Harm Course. Certification is valid for two years and must be renewed to keep your membership valid.
